Rudrapur is a very fast growing city in the tarai area. Though agriculture is pre-dominant
in this area, yet a lot of industries are being established here. There are a few
migrant Catholic families settled here. Hence, there is a strong need felt to open
a station to cater to the spiritual needs of these people. In 1990, Bishop Anthony
Fernandes invited the Congragation of St. Anne's Providence to open a community
of Sisters. A plot of land was bought in 1991. In the same year, Sisters opened
a school in a temporary shed. On 8th December, the foundation stone was laid for
the Convent building. It was completed and inaugurated on the 23rd October, 1993.
Fr. J.B. Mascarehas was appointed as the first resident parish priest of Rudrapur
in the year 2001. New Presbytery with attached Church was blessed and inaugurated
by Bishop Anthony Fernandes on 15.12.2002
